Hi,

I was contacted by a scammer this morning pretending to be a work acquaintance asking for money. They sent bank info for a Green Dot bank in Cali. Would like to direct this info to the correct place to have it shut down. Please advise.

Hi yo4444,

This is a common scam where someone at your workplace has clicked a phishing email and a note has gone out to (likely) everyone in that person's contacts, or all persons with your email domain. This is a difficult one to bait as the scammer will use a very short timeframe to gather as many cards as possible before the company is alerted to the scam.

Your most effective approach is to contact your company's IT team and tell them what's going on. They can alert everyone in your workplace.

We all wish we could get these scammers shut down, but unfortunately there really isn't a way to do that - only to waste their time.

I've responded to the "urgent - I'm in a meeting and need a gift card" scam by using a baiting email address (NEVER from my work account) to engage with the scammer safely and keep them busy for a bit, but once they figure out I'm not sending a card (or the "card" I'm sending is bogus) they drop me. They usually want someone to txt as well, and I don't currently have a baiting phone.

Truly I would advise you to contact your company's IT department so they can send out a mass email warning people not to respond.

Hi there,
It is coming through phone text to all associates. The phone number being used is a local one (easily obtained through hushed or other service). He has texted a ton of us and is sending out the bank info to anyone who leads him to believe he may get the dough.

It was my understanding that people would collect scammer accounts to have them shut down, and was wondering where I could submit the info.
