Taking it "seriously"

Post by courierbaited » Sun Dec 06, 2020 6:34 pm

Here I am! I'm back again, with another completed \scambait.
So, just like my previous one, I went on scamwarners.com and composed an email, making it look like a reply. The original email (which I never received but pretended to receive) was this:
Good Day To You Dear..

Am here to let you know that your fund is ready to deliverer to you from our bank here bank of America USA please contact Mr Willam Dudley with your full information as
Your Name
Your Home address
Your Phone number
Your Country
.................

MR.WILLAM DUDLEY
PHONE NUMBER :+1 XXX XXX XXXX
EMAIL : ███████@gmail.com

THANK YOU
Pretty basic scam, to say the least. No fancy bells and whistles, just straight-to-the-point. I like his style.
I "replied", saying,
Dear Mr. Dudley,

I was told to contact you with my personal information? It was quite sudden, what's all this about?

Sincerely,
Jacob
The scammer then basically copy-pasted his previous email.
Good day sir
Please your information is needed for the delivering of your funds.
Your name
Your country
Your phone number
Your home address

Now this wasn't going to do! He was jumping right into it! I may like his style, but Jacob sure doesn't.
Willam,

This is going all a bit too fast.
I do not have a phone number. Is that okay?
My name's Jacob Trevor Watson. I'm 39.

Sincerely,
J
In truth, I have not gotten a pay-as-you-go card yet, and as of right now, I'm a bit nervous talking on the phone.
Just like last time, I claimed Jacob was 39, not 32, like my character usually is. There was no reason this time - I just felt like it.
The scammer confirmed that not having a phone was ok:
No problem now how do you want to receive your funds?
Very simple, this man.
I was in a call with some other scambaiting friends of mine, who gave me the genius suggestion of responding with:
Dear Willam,

Could I get my funds through Apple Pay?

Sincerely,
Jacob
Surprisingly, the scammer was alright with that! So much so, in fact, that he sent the email twice!
Good Day Dear Jacob

You can receive your funds through anything you want but the only
problem is the delivering fee which is $100 only if you are ready to
send the fee let me and you can send your address immediately

Best regard
Willam Dudley
I was a bit slow to respond due to some personal issues, so 3 days later, I finally responded with,
You need my address, right?
Is this still available?

Also, how are you doing? I hope you're well. My daughter recently had a birthday party - that's why I've been away from my computer.
Thanks
Regards
Mr. Jacob Watson
Here comes one of my favourite parts - apparently, this scammer regards birthdays very, very highly:
Good morning Jacob Watson.
How are you doing today I hope you are doing good?
I receive your email about your daughter's birthday and am wishing her a great birthday may she celebrate more birthday with everlasting joy. Happy birthday to her once again...
And for your funds we are still waiting for you to receive your funds I need your address
Your home address
Your phone number
Your occupation
Your country
Thank you
Best regards
Mr Willam Dudley.
That one's going in my signature.
Now, this next one's a bit hard to show, but I'll try my best to attack an image here (if it doesn't work out, that's alright, I can describe). I decided to mess with him just a bit by distorting my signature significantly in terms of colour, font, and size, replying,
Mr. Dudley,

Thank you for the birthday wishes, I'm sure she'd greatly appreciate it. Here are the details you asked for:
3108 Alpine Ave NW, Walker, MI 49544
I don't have a phone number.
I work as an engineer.
I live in the United States.
and signing off with:

However, the scammer didn't even seem to notice this. Shame. Instead, he replied,
Okay.. so when will you send the fee because that's only thing that holding the transaction now
Now it's time for needless questions!
Where do I send the money?
Can you get steam wallet card or iTunes card?
Have you get the card?
Me and a couple of friends found a steam code online and changed two of the letters and one of the numbers, making the "code" invalid:
Yes! I got a card through steam.
Here's the code:

BAX59-223IU-PEL3A
That wasn't enough for him, though. He said,
ttached the card picture with the slip please
Thank you
I stalled, saying,
I'm having a bit of trouble with gmail, I can't seem to figure out how to send you a picture. Is there any way you could help me?
Can you create another Yahoo account because we need the picture of the card with the slip please
Thank you
Slightly passive-aggressive:
Well, I could, but I don't think I will
can see that you are not serious to receive your funds. The card you sent me is not good
Uh oh. Is he onto us?
Not quite. But just to mess with him a bit, I said, again passive-aggressive,
You're right, it's not
The scammer was obviously confused.
Then why do you do that?
Time to turn the tables and blame him for the stalling:
Because you're not being serious about this!
That annoyed him.
Really. Okay I'm not going to force you to do this if you don't want to receive your funds tell me so that I will stop sending emails to you please
Thank you
No no no I still want to do this I just wanna know if you're really serious about it
To be honest with you I'm telling you the truth and the only thing that holding your funds now is the fee
Well then... it was time to end this one, I think, so I said...
Telling the truth, hmm?

Well, for a scammer, that's certainly a bold claim.

Hope you had fun wasting your time like this. I know I sure enjoyed it.
Find a better occupation. Rethink your life choices.

Sincerely,
"Jacob Watson"
...making sure to put my "name" in quotation marks.
Well, that's my second scambait! I'm really enjoying putting my work on here. Helps me keep track of it all.

We don't recommend "burning" a lad by letting him know you're onto him. Just string him along for as long as you want, bait him from another email address, or just drop him and move on to the next one.
