Need help !! Is this an Online Dating Scam?

Post by LadyWarrior16 » Tue Jun 30, 2020 1:28 am

Can anyone help me out?
I matched with a guy and the very next day he called me via WhatsApp but instead of the usual getting to know one another, he told me that he received an email from a company suggesting that his late wife had received a lump sum amount of 1.5 million pounds, but to receive the amount, he asked me to help him by emailing back to the company to tell them that I am his fiance/trusted person. He told me to give them only his full name and age, and the company will email me back asking for my information. What struck me then was that within a few minutes, an email arrived asking me for my personal information that I wasn't happy to give them, so I told the guy in question that I don't feel comfortable giving out personal details and confronted him that it sounds like a scam, but he was very adamant that the money was his and that he had worked for it and had forgot that he had the account, saying that over the past few years it had accumulated interest. The only problem was that it was in his late wife's name, therefore couldn't claim it without my involvement. The more he's trying to convince me, the more I'm thinking this man isn't geniune. Can any anyone tell me if he's true or not....here's the reply back to my email that I got.....

It is a scam. The way it works is they will ask you for a series of fees to receive the (fake) inheritance which will never come. Please immediately stop all contact with this person and block them on any social media, whatsapp, etc. where you may have added them. As his criminal has your phone number, he may try to reach out to you again via email or whatsapp from a new character/persona with a new scam. So be on the lookout for any suspicious emails / contact from people you do not know.

If you feel comfortable, please post the full email, including their email address to our sister site, http://scamwarners.com. That is a site for scam victims. While you were quick to catch on that this was a scam, others may not be so observant. Your posting the email could save another person from falling victim to the scam.

Really? Why would you as a complete stranger to these idiots have any authority or role to play concerning a (likely fictional) monetary windfall? Padme's suggestion to post the entire exchange at scamwarners.com is good advice. It could help other potential victims from falling for the same scam. There's no doubt that this is a scammer just trying to scam. If you are talking to him via a fake account with no ties to your real personal information you can test his nonsense by asking him how much interest has accumulated in said account. Chances are he'll quote an amount that would make even Warren Buffet's head spin. Lads suck at math so a 1 billion % interest rate per quarter shouldn't surprise you. If he's been chatting you up via an account that can be tied to your real life info in any way then just drop him completely. These idiots move on if they doubt that they can steal cash from you.

Welcome!

Oh, that's a scam alright. He's trying to steal your identity so he can scrub your bank account clean or use it for money laundering.
