Post by Rebecca Stevens » Wed Jul 15, 2020 5:21 pm

This is a text message scam. The scammer claimed that they were my boss and that they meeting with clients and their kids wanted some type of "Off Gamer CG at 4 at $100 each" They wanted me to buy them and scratch off the seals off the back and text photos of cards.

The scam text number that they are using is 424-322-xxxx. Phone number removed -Padme

Go get them. Thanks.

Rebecca, Welcome to eater. I have removed the last 4 digits of the phone number as we do not allow the posting of someone's details without proof of a scam. Separately, the appropriate place to provide details if you have been the victim of a scam is our sister site http://scamwarners.com That said, as this person has your phone number, please block them and do not reply. The number they used is a "voip" number - ie probably a service such as skype or google voice that allows someone to create a fake USA phone number from any location inside or outside of the country. That said, those numbers frequently get recycled and, as an innocent person could own that number next week, we do not encourage the calling of such numbers outside of direct replies (if you yourself are using a nontraceable number and communicating back and forth with someone you know is a scammer).

The scammer in this situation is pretending to be my boss at the company that I work for. Because of this I'm very confident that this is a scam as they are wanting me to buy these "Off Gamer" cards and take pictures of them with the scratch off removed so they can use the code on them and redeem them. It is clearly a scam. I will persuade them into giving me their e-mail.

Definitely report the fraud at scamwarners.com as already suggested. That will help alert others that could have already been targeted by the same asshat lad. Most lads are pretty lazy in general and don't have the record keeping skills to track who they have or have not blasted their scam formats to. Even so, Padme's advice to avoid this lad if he initially texted you at your real life phone # is more than solid. The worst case scenario is that he actually is relatively proficient in tracking who he contacts from day to day. Maybe one week he blasted out a NOK (next of kin) scam but he changed it up to a trunk box or romance scam in subsequent weeks. He may send scam emails out using a certain alias one day but sends the same scam under a different alias the next day. Even if you contact him from a burner phone # and reply to his "offer" he may be able to realize that the scam you are referring to was sent by him on a specific day. If your number/email doesn't match his records then he may know that you are attempting to trick him somehow and then try to deploy malicious behavior designed to extract real info from you in order to seek some form of revenge.

If he does give you an email because you already elected to get that from him as mentioned then post those details to scamwarners.com as well. Start a thread here that contains your scamwarners.com entry and invite this community to go after him. One can never bait "too safely" so let other folks here torture him and then sit back and smile at the results. There are plenty of other lads you can try to destroy listed at scamwarners.com in which your personal info is 100% far removed. If he ever contacted you at a real email account or phone # it is best to avoid him altogether. Most lads are dumb as rocks but magically grow a weapons grade vindictive sense of purpose when it comes to exacting revenge upon people that tried to trick him. It's just not worth the risk.
