Any EXCEL spreadsheet experts out there?
I need help with either formatting or formulas, not sure which.
I track my 401K accounts by placing the daily value in descending cells of a column, then use that column as the source for a graph; works fine.
However, is there a way for EXCEL to automatically highlight the cell with the highest value in that column (change color, italicize, bold face, etc.)?
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Help with EXCEL
Its been a while since I used it, but there is an option in conditional formatting that allows you to highlight the highest value in a range of cells, you should be able to use that on an entire column and it will update as you enter new values.
This page explains it well https://www.exceldemy.com/highlight-hig ... -in-excel/ - method 1 is the one you want

Re: Help with EXCEL
^^ yup, what B8er said. I use it to track my finances as well, and I use conditional formatting to show whether investments are gaining or declining year over year (my style is more DCA or long-term indices rather than day trading). With the market doing what it is this year, I have a sea of red on the charts with only a few minor areas of green, so I know it's working . I used to teach Excel courses, but that was back in '00 - '07 or so, and I think we still had Clippy around...
If you want to simply track a maximum number within a range (eg., "what year was my highest level of income between 2010 and 2022?") you could put this formula into a cell: =MAX(A10:A22) where A10 represents the first year in the series, and A22 represents the last year. The highest number will appear in the cell with the formula. You can also create a running daily percentage for increases or decreases with the formula =1-A11/A12 -- put that formula in a cell to the right of your list, starting at A12 (or whichever cell is second to avoid division by 0) and then format it as a percentage. Drag the formula copy handle down your list for a daily percentage of increase or decrease.
I was tracking stolen credit card numbers in excel for a bit with one of our black pork baits and had some fun randomizing credit card rejection notifications along columns of submitted card numbers. I also tracked the amount of money the lad attempted over 7 characters of mine (7 tabs in the spreadsheet) and then kept a running grand total on a final page from the other 7 tabs. He attempted something like $200k over 6 months time.
Excel is awesome!

Re: Help with EXCEL
@ B8er. Yes that's exactly what I wanted. Forgot to mention, though, that I'm using an ancient version of EXCEL and that option is not available for cell formatting. However, Kitty's use of MAX might help me do a workaround.
@ Kitty. I like your idea for a running daily percentages. That was a problem that I gave up on a long time ago!
Thanks both for your help.
