Backstory- a guy I went to high school with who I haven’t talked to in over 25 years messaged me out of the blue asking if I wanted to buy a puppy. Conversation goes like this:

Him: Hello
Me: Hi
H: How are you doing)
M: Good you?
H: I’m good. How is your day going?
M: So far so good
H: That’s nice. Well I just wanted to let you know that if you need to get puppy I do sell at low price

At this point, the small talk, grammar and syntax of no gen x person ever, and the common knowledge that I live on the opposite side of the US was showing more red flags than a Communist Chinese military parade. But I needed to confirm.

Me: Thanks I’ll spread the word. Do you ship? I don’t have many local contacts anymore. Also if you want rescue assistance I have somewhat MORE local contacts for that.
Him: Sure I deliver nationwide
M: what breeds do you sell? Also what is the price and how would someone pay? My neighbor was asking.
H: Female is $150 and male is $200. She can pay with cash app or paypal and will get it delivered to her

Accompanying this exchange I received pictures of Yorkies that I know the guy from my high school really was selling. But that’s low hanging fruit for a spear phish when the actual friend had pictures of Yorkies all over his social. The breed will also become relevant shortly.

Moving right along (apparently there are length limits and my post got chopped off)

Me: How will they be delivered?
Him: Depending on where the person wants it delivered too and the delivery fee is just $30
M: And also do you deliver to Slovakia?
H: Sure
M: Is it also $30?
H: Yes is she getting one?

The Slovakia thing is the plot of a commercially successful book, so why the hell not.

Me: She has to ask her husband but sounds like she probably will.
Him: Okay thanks you can keep me updated please
M: Neighbor wants to know if she can use bitcoin?
H: Yes she can use bitcoin I’ve a wallet also
M: Ok I’ll tell her and maybe just tell her to message you directly
H: That a great idea thanks I really appreciate

And then I came back from a work meeting and decided to keep him going.

Me: My neighbors husband got stuck at work but they’re gonna contact you later.

My mom wanted to know if those are pure breed Pithuahua puppies and if they’re show quality.
Him: Okay no problem

Sure there pure breed and eight weeks and also got there shot and all the Paperwork are with my vet doctor you have nothing to worry about.

There are active,healthy, and AKC registered
And also vet checked and got all shots up to date. comes with health guarantee as well as few stuffs and will grow up to 5lb fully
M: Will breeding rights be included?
H: Yes!

So…. Advice for what comes next would be very much appreciated.

This is not really the type of scams we deal with here. We deal mainly with advance fee fraud (AFF). This probably is someone trying to sell non-existing pets, which is a whole different ballpark

It's not safe to bait using any account connected to your real life. Additionally, this just opens up all your connections to be scammed, as well.

ETA: The fake pet scam is a form of advance fee fraud. The scammers are asking for an upfront payment for a pet that doesn't exist.
